Off — Mr-11 . 92646 BE w:I OVORAM Gentlemen, WD CITY CLERK We are aware of your efforts in trying to find a solution to the problem of campers, trailers and inoperative vehicles parked in the front yards of private dwellings, and we sincerely applaud these efforts to upgrade our residential areas. While it is true that people having these items are f%ced with a problem as to their parking and storage, if is equally as true that they are in the minority, and there is no justification in the majority, who neither have, nor want these objects, having their neighborhood ana property downgraded by them Daring these discussions we have heard a great deal of talk about these peoples' rights But they have failed to make mention of their responsibilities Do not other people have rights? `there are clever, yet inexpensive methods for concealing these weekend playhouses and week long guest houses, yet most owners fin-3 3,t easier to pitch them about the front yard and spend their time f-ighting for their rights, somewhat oblivious to the rights artd feelings of others In the first place, a residential street was never intended to be a trailer and camper park. There are areas where these things can be parked when not in use, maintaining neatness, safety and harmony for all It is rather ridiculous for so much attention to be paid to the downtown area and the oil well sights if the residential area is going to be allowed to become a graveyard for seldom used vehicles. We have building codes and other laws which must be adhsrred to if our catty ever hopes to be Beautiful, and just as important as any building code is a parking law There are towns which do not even allow these objects to be parked any where on a private residence. I don't tnink anyone really objects to these things when they are kept off front lawns and driveways, and are neatly and artistically concealed Seemingly, it isn't so much a fight on these peoples' parts to own these things, they appear to be fighting for a right to dump them out front and have the entire neighborhood look like a used camping grounds. It was a residential area when first begun, and for those who need a place to live daily, rather than for those more concerned for their weekends, these areas should remain so It is very hard to sell a home in an area dominated by slip shod parking practises, and virtually impossible to sell one next door to a yard covered with a trailer or a camper body I am mindful of the problem faced ey these people, but their solution does not lie in posing a greater problem for more people. File MUST DE RETURNED Mr Doyle Miller P 0 Box 190 TO CITY CLERK Huntington Beach, California Dear Mr Miller I understand that the city council is considering a new city ordinance limiting the parking of campers I reside at the above address Due to the allowances made to the developer, it would be impossible to keep my camper at the side or rear of the house It is a registered vehicle and we use it quite often I believe this would be a good ordinance, if the Planning Commission had accomplished previous planning If this ordinance is used in the future, developers should be forced to allow for
