ENGLE, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY SERVIC SUBJECT: ACCEPT RESIGNATIONS AND APPROVE APPOINTM TS TO HUMAN RELATIONS TASK FORCE Statement of Issue,Funding Source,Recommended Action,Alternative Action(s),Analysis,Environmental Status,Attachment(s) Statement of Issue: Due to the resignations of Rosa Arredondo and Michael Robinson, there is a need to fill two vacancies on the Human Relations Task Force. Funding Source: Not applicable. Recommended Action: Motion to: 1. Accept the resignation of Rosa Arredondo and approve the appointment of Marlene Breverman to the Human Relations Task Force with a term to expire December 31, 2009, as recommended by City Council Members Gil Coerper and Cathy Green; and 2. Accept the resignation of Michael Robinson and approve the appointment of Amanda Bloom to the Human Relations Task Force with a term to expire December 31, 2011 as recommended by City Council Members Gil Coerper and Cathy Green. Alternative Action(s): Do not approve these recommended appointments and request further review by the Council liaison. REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 4/21/2008 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: CS 08-011 Analysis: Due to personal reasons, both Rosa Arredondo and Michael Robinson submitted letters of resignation from the Human Relations Task Force (HRTF). Pursuant to Maddy Act requirements, the vacancies were posted at City Hall, Huntington Central Library, all branch libraries, and the city's website. Based upon a review of the applications, Marlene Breverman and Amanda Bloom are being recommended for appointment. Marlene Breverman is currently semi-retired with over 15 years experience in event planning for national and international non-profit organizations, including silent auctions, dinner dances and golf tournaments. She has served as publicity chair for several organizations and indicates that volunteering in the community is an inherent part of her life's work. Amanda Bloom is presently working on her undergraduate degree in World History. She is presently a small business owner, but has worked both as a customer service manager and Quality Assurance Director in years past. She is interested in promoting a positive and healthy community and indicates that her interest in history has increased her awareness of the importance of educating individuals on differences and acceptance. Strategic Plan Goal: These appointments would meet Strategic Plan Goal E-1: to increase community involvement, dialogue, and outreach by educating residents about opportunities for involvement. Elaine Kuhnke, Staff Liaison Huntington Beach, CA February 6, 2008 City Council Members Gil Coerper and Cathy Green: It is with deep regret that I must resign effective immediately from the Human Relations Task Force(HRTF). I only had the opportunity to attend one meeting this year before I found out that I have some health issues which are going to take all of my attention for at least the next few months. This is very disappointing for me, not only from a health standpoint, but because I was so looking forward to "giving back"to the Huntington Beach community and to working with the absolutely outstanding members of the HRTF. I hope that sometime down-the-road I will again have the opportunity to participate on the HRTF. Sincerely, Michael L.
