Financial Impact: N/A Recommended Action: Motion to: Approve the appointments of Gil Coerper and Andi Hamamoto Kowal to the Fourth of July Board of Directors as recommended by City Council Liaisons Mayor Joe Carchio, Councilmember Keith Bohr and Councilmember Joe Shaw. Alternative Action(s): Do not approve the appointment of the two members to the Fourth of July Board of Directors and direct staff accordingly. H -21- Item 2. - 1 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 3/21/2011 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: AD 11-001 Analysis: The City Council Liaisons met on January 18, 2011, to discuss appointments to the Fourth of July Board of Directors. They reviewed two applications for the Board — one from Gil Coerper and one from Andi Hamamoto Kowal. Gil Coerper is a former mayor and councilmember for the City of Huntington Beach. He has lived in Huntington Beach for more than 47 years and is a retired police officer. Gil has worked with the Fourth of July Board in the past, assisting with the military portion of the parade. Andi Hamamoto Kowal was raised in Huntington Beach, has spent time away for school and work and is living in Huntington Beach again. She is a filmmaker/photographer and has extensive experience in marketing and public relations. She has also lived abroad (Europe and Asia) and has a unique multi-cultural understanding. I am adept at working with a wide range of people and personalities to achieve any and all tasks. I love the collaborative process and I feel that I can bring many creative ideas to the table. Working in a creative field as a self employed professional filmmaker and photographer has trained me to be creative and practical with my approach to problem solving. WHY DO YOU WISH TO SERVE ON A VOLUNTEER CITIZEN'S BODY? My family has been in Huntington Beach for going on 4 generations. This city heritage has given me a sense of pride and affection for my hometown. Growing up in Huntington Beach has given me am important sense of community. 1 wish to give back to the community that has given me so much. Having left the city for college and grad school, my husband and I have returned to grow deep roots within the community and to help keep the city a wonderful place to grow up, live, and raise a family.
