This program has provided a number of valuable services to our students and their families. Without these programs Oak View Elementary School would have very limited resources for parental support. The CSP staff is extremely professional and very well qualified. They work effectively with students, parents and teachers. 'One of the most valued parts of the program is the parent education classes. These classes are held in Spanish and provide parents with support and guidance. The Oak View neighborhood is a very challenging community in which to raise a family. There are problems that are not common to any other Huntington Beach neighborhood. The CSP sponsored programs provide parents with the skills to fight against the negative elements that are impacted their children's lives. The 7 week program, "Like Parent,Like Child"is a well-attended class. Parents and students learn about the signs of drug use and gang involvement. Parents are looking.for ways to help their children behave well and'be better citizens and students. As students improve their behavior their school work improves. Oak View. Elementary School's test scores improved 40 points from 200&2009 to 2009-2010,'(API froth. 723 to 763). This can be partly attributed to the-support of the CSP parent education program. Elsa Greenfield, Program Director, has provided a teacher volunteer to work with students after, school. Ms. Greenfield is concerned with the number of students who are struggling to read. She did more than just complain about the problem. She made a positive change in the lives of these students. These students have made great gains since November of 2010 when she started the program. Her staff supports these efforts by listening to students read 2 days per week. It is with great enthusiasm that I support the programs that CSP provide for our school. Sincerely, n ,- '` oyc Horowitz Principal
