SOFFICE MEMORANDUM
City Clerk % Date July 22, 1969
City Attorney In Re Reading of Bid
Transmittals
In order to shorten and simplify council meetings, we
make the following recommendation in connection with your
practice of reading in full, bid transmittals from the Director
of Public Works to the council.
The law does not require that the transmittal be read.
We suggest that you give copies of the transmittals to the
council prior to the meeting, and when the matter comes up on
the agenda, you may merely invite the attention of the City
Council to the written transmittal in their hands, and advise
them that the Director of Public Works recommends that the con-
tract be awarded to , as successful bidder.
If any member of the council requests you to read the
transmittal in full, you will, of course, comply.
