Request type: Problem Request area: City Council - Agenda & Public Hearing Comments Citizen name: Tarrik and Paula Shawa Description: Dear Council Members: As a resident of Huntington Harbour, I would like to express my concerns regarding the proposal to develop a section of the Davenport Marina. The proposed project will destroy coastal views, create potentially dangerous traffic congestion and impact the quality of life in the Harbour. Here are my concerns: 1. PUBLIC SAFETY The close proximity of the proposed homes' driveway to the Davenport bridge presents increased risk of injury to anyone crossing theDavenport bridge sidewalk. People crossing the bridge will not be in view of the cars pulling out of the proposed driveways. This already congested area will become more so with the addtion of two homes increasing the risk of injury to bridge pedestrians, bicyclists, joggers etc. 2. COASTAL ACCESS AND COMMUNITY IMPACTS Public views of the waterway will be forever lost. The current scenic and visual characteristics will be negatively impacted. Coastal access will be reduced. The proposed lot split, and subsequent homes, will adversely affect the character of the community and tract. This parcel of land has been a marina since the Harbour was created — that has always been its intended purpose. 3. REDUCED PARKING The current lack of parking in the area near the Davenport bridge will be exacerbated with the proposed reduction of parking in the marina parking lot. During peak times, many residents on Edgewater Lane, Davenport Drive and Baruna are unable to find parking in front of their own homes. The parking survey, paid for by the developer, taken over a three day period, does not adequately show the demand for boat -trailer and car parking in this area. As a citizen, voter and resident of Huntington Beach I ask that you DENY THIS APPEAL and do the right thing for our community, city and safety.
