REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION MEETING DATE: 10/1/2007 DEPARTMENT ID NUMBER: FD 07-009 Analysis: In July 2007, Fire Department staff applied to the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company Grant Program for funding for the purchase of replacement fire hose. Staff was recently notified that $12,000 is being awarded to the city of Huntington Beach for this purchase. The Fire Department has an immediate need for replacement fire hose for emergency responders. Part of the Department's inventory of fire hose exceeds its life expectancy and is in need of replacement. During the past three years the Huntington Beach Fire Department responded to an average of 478 fires per year. As an integral part of the Fire Department's emergency response system, fire hose is essential. In addition to increasing public safety, the purchase will increase Huntington Beach firefighter safety, as well as the safety of other fire personnel in the county, and reduce property damage. Strategic Plan Goal: C-2 City Services: Provide quality public service with the highest professional standards to meet community expectations and needs, assuring that the city is sufficiently staffed and equipped overall.
