STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Extension of time for undergrounding electric, cen4nunications and similar services
in Underground Utility District #83-1.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the attached Resolution and thereby extend the time for undergrounding electric,
communication and similar services in Underground Utility District Number 83-1, as
follows:
a. Underground installation by property owners and reconnections not later than August
1, 1986; and
b. Removal of poles, overhead wires and other associated overhead structures net later
than November 1, 1986, by all utility companies.
ANALYSIS:
On June 20, 1983, the City Council adopted Resolution #5276; thereby establishing an
underground utility district on both sides of Warner Avenue, between Gothard Street and
Beach Boulevard. The Resolution resolved that all poles, overhead wires and associated
overhead structures be removed and that underground installations made within the follow-
ing time frame:
a. Underground installation by property owners and reconnections not later than
December 31, 1984;
b. Removal of poles, overhead wires and other associated overhead structures not
later than July 1, 1985.
These deadlines cannot be met by the utility companies because of difficulties in ob—
taining easements from several property owners; therefore, a portion of the underground-
ing plan must be redesigned and the completion dates for undergrounding electric, ccni-
munication and similar services, extended as follows:
a. Underground installation by property owners and reconnections not later than
August 1, 1986; and
b. Removal of poles, overhead wires and other associated overhead structures not later
than November 1, 1986.
