The Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter (HBYS) and Huntington Beach Police Department intend to work together
toward the mutual goal of providing the maximum available assistance for runaway, homeless, abused, at -risk, human
trafficking victims and gang involved or victimized youth, along with other persons and families in need, residing or seeking
services throughout Orange County and beyond. To this end, each agency agrees to coordinate services through the following:
The Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter is a "safe -haven" for Orange County's youth dedicated to serving children
and youth ages 11-17 that are runaway, homeless, abused, at -risk, or human traffick victims. The goal of the Shelter's 12-bed
short-term, emergency intervention program is to reconnect youth with their families by providing individual and family
therapy. HBYS also strives to keep youth out of the juvenile justice system by improving their prospects for long-term stability
and success, providing a safe and therapeutic environment that is designed to give an experience of belonging and self-
sufficiency and by providing the youth with the catalyst to stop the cycle of running away and homelessness. The agency
provides comprehensive shelter and supportive services to individuals and families in need of the following services:
• Temporary shelter for up to 21 days of entering the program
• 24-hour supervision and continuous support by professional bilingual/bicultural staff
• Individual therapy and family sessions
• Support youth group counseling and parenting groups
• Academic assistance and tutoring five days per week
• Drug abuse education and prevention
• Skill -building development
• Self-sufficiency training by putting the youth incharge of daily routines and chores
• Job/Career readiness and resume building
• Mentoring
• Exercise and recreational activities
• Aftercare services
• Community referrals
• Volunteer program offering a wide range of opprotunities to engage and involve the youth and community
Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD)
• Refers and transports runaway, homeless, and at -risk youth found on the streets to the Waymakers Huntington Beach
Youth Shelter
• Assist the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter in dealing with family conflict and/or need to transport youth
to hospitals or other institutions
• HBPD provides a safety net for the Shelter
The Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter and Huntington Beach Police Department will closely coordinate services
including, but not limited to:
• HBYS and HBPD staff should be reasonably available to each other during normal hours of operation for networking
and exchanging referrals, advocacy services, resources, and expertise on behalf of youth who are homeless, runways,
abused, at -risk, or involved with gangs and/or human trafficking victimization. The frequency and duration of such
contacts are to be deemed necessary by collaborating agencies to properly manage client cases and other matters
regarding help to clients.
• Both agencies shall be available to each other to provide cross training and consultation (arranged on a case -by -case
basis) in areas of expertise for improving delivery of client services.
• Both agencies are commited to assuring high quality service, including: proper documentation of interactions on
behalf of clients; mutual communication and follow-up, as appropriate, on case management matters or new
developments that may affect the client, family, or agency programs; and coordinating continued communication if
advisable.
