HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Manager's Report (19-783) - Supplemental Communication Field Activity Update,Sep 16 2019—Ascon Landfill Site Ascon Landfill Site Huntington Beach, CA About Project Updates& News Fact Sheets& Notices Site Documents Contacts Field Activity Update, Sep 16 2019 Field work at the Ascon Landfill Site during the week of September 16 is planned to include: • Final removal of any existing chain link fence and use of temporary fence, gravel placement along existing fence line and concrete base placement along Magnolia Street in preparation for installation of 16-foot barrier fence along Magnolia Street; there is additional onsite security during this work. • Temporary lane adjustment and temporary bike lane closure on Magnolia Street, during the hours of 9 am to 3 pm. • Dust and odor mitigation measures continue to be implemented. • Air quality monitoring continues. • Weed abatement and removal as necessary. • 24-hour onsite security continues. As noted on the graphic below, the 16-foot fence will be installed along the northeast corner of the Ascon Landfill Site after the official restart of remedial excavation work. Date: ASCON LANDFILL SITE UPDATE NEXT STEPS BY DTSC & ASCON: • Installation of 16 foot tall barrier fence to start this week. • Investigation of feasibility of tenting or enclosure of excavation areas. • Additional Excavation Cover to seal excavated areas and reduce odors. • Additional air quality monitoring areas including: 2 locations in the community + Edison Park + Edison High School + Eader Elementary School. • Will provide updated information on the enhancements and project schedule in the next two weeks. • DTSC will host a public meeting before restart of remediation work. • NEXT STEPS BY CITY: City of Huntington Beach to contract with Third Party Technical Advisor for city, school, and community assistance.
