COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT SURVEY
FOR
FORMER CROWN/KONA CLEANERS
5935 WARNER AVENUE, HUNTINGTON BEACH
Para informaci6n en espanol por favor comuniquese con Manuel Lopez al numero (818) 717-6572
Dear Community Member:
We need your help. Our agency, the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), invites you to complete and
return the attached Community Survey Questionnaire regarding an environmental investigation and cleanup being
conducted at the former Crown/Kona Cleaners located at 5935 Warner Avenue, in Huntington Beach, California 92649
(Site).
Site Location and History: The Site is an approximately 4.5-acre property located on the northwest corner of the
intersection of Warner Avenue and Springdale Street in Huntington Beach. The former cleaners contaminated the
Site with volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Why Cleanup is Necessary: Historic dry-cleaning operations resulted in VOCs being released into subsurface soil that
exceed regulatory health levels required for commercial and industrial use. In 2019, environmental cleanup will be
performed at the Site. You will be notified of proposed cleanup plans in a future mailing notification.
The goal of DTSC is to restore and protect the environment and protect public health, in part by conducting this
environmental investigation, and by conducting future cleanup under the regulatory authority of DTSC. Your
responses will help shape upcoming public participation opportunities associated with this Site. Please complete and
return the attached Community Survey Questionnaire by September 13, 2019.
