ASCON LANDFILL SITE UPDATE
CURRLNTLY:
• CLEAN-UP EFFORTS HAVE STOPPED
• CHECKLIST OF ENHANCED MITIGATION MEASURES UNDERWAY PRIOR
TO RESTARTING REMEDIATION WORK.
• AIR MONITORING CONTINUES: CURRENT TESTING HAS NOT FOUND
ANY CHEMICAL LEVELS THAT PRESENT A PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERN.
• DTSC COMPLETED REVIEW TO DETERMINE ANY OFF-SITE SOIL OR
GROUNDWATER CONTAMINANT IMPACTS: RESULTS CONFIRM THAT
CONTAMINATION IS CONTAINED WITHIN THE SITE BOUNDARY AND
NO OFF-SITE SOIL OR GROUNDWATER IMPACTS HAVE BEEN
DETECTED OR ANTICIPATED.

NEXT STEPS BY DTSC & ASCOP
Installation of 16 foot tall barrier fence is nearing completion along Hamilton Ave.
and Magnolia Street. Ascon placed the off-site air monitoring trailers planned at 2
locations in the community + Edison Park+ Edison High School + Eader Elementary
School.
Investigation of feasibility of tenting or enclosure of excavation areas.
Will provide updated information on the enhancements and project schedule in the
next two weeks.
DTSC will host a public meeting before restart of remediation work.
• NEXT STEPS BY CITY:
City of Huntington Beach to contracted with Third Party Technical Advisor for city,
school, and community assistance. The Consultant will start review of available data
and project information.

Project Update
► HUNTINGTON BEACH ENERGY PROJECT IS THE MODERNIZATION OF THE
AES HUNTINGTON BEACH ELECTRICITY GENERATING STATION.
► CURRENTLY
THE PROJECT IS 95% COMPLETE AND STARTING THE COMMISSIONING
AND START-UP PHASE.
DURING THIS PHASE THE "FIRST FIRE" OF THE PLANT AND STEAM BLOWS
WILL OCCUR. STEAM RELEASED WILL BE VISIBLE ON SITE AND A LOUD
HISSING SOUND WILL OCCUR.
THIS OPERATION WILL ONLY OCCUR BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:00 AM
AND 6:00 PM AND IS ANTICIPATED TO TAKE ONE TO TWO WEEKS.
