ASCON LANDFILL SITE UPDATE
CURRENTLY:
• CLEAN-UP EFFORTS HAVE STOPPED.
• CHECKLIST OF ENHANCED MITIGATION MEASURES UNDFRWAY PRIOR
TO RESTARTING REMEDIATION WORK,
• AIR MONITORING CONTINUES: CURRENT TESTING HAS NOT FOUND
ANY CHEMICAL LEVELS THAT PRFSENI A Pt1BLIC HEALTH CONCERN,
• DTSC COMPLETED REVIEW 10 DETERMINE ANY OFF-SITE SOIL OR
GROUNDWATER CONTAMINANT IMPACTS: RESULTS CONFIRM THAT
CONTAMINATION IS CONTAINED W11 HIN THE SITE BOUNDARY AND
NO OFF-SITE SOIL OR GROUNDWATER IMPACTS HAVE BEEN
DETECTED OR ANTICIPATED,
ASCON LANDFILL SITE UPDATE
Connection of the fire hydrant installed on Magnolia Street in December to an onsite water tower.In a
related activity,large water storage tanks onsite will be removed from the Site.
There will be continued inspection and maintenance of stormwater management measures.
Installation of 16 foot tall barrier fence along Hamilton Avenue and Magnolia Street is completed with
the exception of two areas

Air quality monitoring continues,both on the Ascon site and at offsite community locations.
Investigation of the feasibility of tenting or enclosure of excavation areas.
DISC will host a public meeting before restart of remedidtion work
NEXT STEPS BY CITY:
City of Huntington Beach contracted with a Third Party Technical Advisor for city,school,and
community assistance. The consultant is developing a schedule to meet with residents starting in late
January and February.

Project Update
MAGNOLIA STREET FLOODING:
• FLOODING OF MAGNOLIA STREET AND NEAR THE MAGNOLIA TANK FARM
PROPERTY REPORTED ON FRIDAY DECEMBER 13TH AT ABOUT 3:00 PM
CITY STAFF RESPONDED AND FOUND THE AES CONTRACTOR KIEWIT WAS
PUMPING WATER TO THE TO THE SLOPE ALONG MAGNOLIA
CITY STAFF WORKED WITH THE CONTRACTOR TO CEASE PUMPING WATER
ONTO THE SLOPE.
• THE CITY ISSUED A CITATION IN VIOLATION OF THE STORM WATER
POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN AND NOTIFIED THE SANTA ANA REGIONAL
WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD OF THE VIOLATION.
