Huntington Beach(and much of Orange County) has been targeted by groups of thieves called Organized Retail Theft Groups. These groups target retail establishments to steal large quantities of products at one time. Beauty supplies,over-the-counter medications,alcohol and clothing are usually targeted. These types of groups account for$180,000 of the total shoplifting loss of$248,000 for 2019. • Theft from Motor Vehicles • 4.8% increase or 67 more crimes • Theft from motor vehicles/vehicle parts had a 4.8% increase as compared to 2018. The total loss from these thefts was S1 6 million dollars- Roughly half the theft from vehicles occur to unlocked vehicles � 1 LARCENIES CONTINUED • Larceny — All Other • 2.0% increase or 16 more crimes • Bicycle thefts (counted under Larceny All-Other) have increased. This past year we have recovered 60 of the 480 reported bicycles stolen. Bicycle thefts account for $386,000 loss in 2019. We average 40 report per months with an average price of $800 per bicycle.
