ASCON LANDFILL SITE UPDATE
CURRENTLY:
CLEAN-UP EFFORTS HAVE STOPPED.
CHECKLIST OF ENHANCED MITIGATION MEASURES UNDERWAY PRIOR TO
RESTARTING REMEDIATION WORK.
LAST WEEK ASCON WAS PERFORMING MAINTENANCE TO THE SOUTHEAST
DENTATION BASINS AS PART OF THE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT. THIS WAS
DONE USING AN EXCAVATOR AND A FRONT END LOADER. THE MAINTENANCE
INCLUDED:
Removal of vegetation
Removal of stone and gravel near the detention basin stand pipe.
DTSC and the City Responded to concerns of the performance of the work.
Improved notification concerning the work will be provided by Ascon going
forward.

The air quality monitoring equipment located near Eader Elementary School was vandalized. Ascon is
replacing the equipment,repairing the trailer,and testing the new equipment. Once completed the air
monitoring will resume at Eader Elementary. The air monitoring on site as well as the other off site community
locations are operational and continue to monitor.
Ascon will replace the existing cover of excavated materials in the Southwest Zone.
Weed abatement will be conducted as needed.
Stormwater will be pumped from areas onsite to other areas within the site as part of the stormwater
management.

City of Huntington Beach contracted with a Third Party Technical Advisor for city,school,and community
assistance. The consultant is developing a schedule to meetings available for residents starting in late
February.

MAGNOLIA STREET FLOODING:
FLOODING OF MAGNOLIA STREET AND NEAR THE MAGNOLIA TANK FARM
PROPERTY REPORTED ON FRIDAY DECEMBER 13TH AT ABOUT 3:00 PM
CITY STAFF RESPONDED AND FOUND THE AES CONTRACTOR KIEWIT WAS
PUMPING WATER TO THE TO THE SLOPE ALONG MAGNOLIA
CITY STAFF WORKED WITH THE CONTRACTOR TO CEASE PUMPING WATER
ONTO THE SLOPE.
THE CITY ISSUED A CITATION IN VIOLATION OF THE STORM WATER
POLLUTION PREVENTION PLAN AND NOTIFIED THE SANTA ANA REGIONAL
WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD OF THE VIOLATION.
