ASCON LANDFILL SITE UPDATE SLOPE FAILURE CONCERN
► CURRENT STATUS ►TIMELINE
Clean-up efforts-Stopped since June December 31, 2019-ASCON identified tension cracks on the berm
along Hamilton
ASCON is pursuing tenting/enclosure permits and work plan February 6, 2020-Additional tension cracks identified
approval • Estimated medium to high risk of slope failure
DTSC & ASCON have evaluated tension cracks on the February-April 2020 DTSC and ASCON evaluated options to repair
northwest berm and alleviate slope failure.
April 2, 2020-Online community forum on emergency repair work
Proceeding with emergency repair work as of today April 10, 2020-DTSC provided approval letter for ASCON to proceed
Outlined strict conditions for all repair work to mitigate any impacts to the
community

Closely managed by DTSC
Allowing only 50 cubic yards per day to start Limiting daily amount of excavation allowed to be
performed
After 3 days, if there is demonstrated odor control and no issues
arise,the excavation rate can be increased by an additional 25 Added dust and odor controls-Foam suppressants,
yards misting sprays, soil, and plastic covering
This can continue up to a maximum rate of 200 cubic yards / Air monitoring and sampling of the site

Rate can also be stopped or decreased if issue arises Must stop excavation if odors cannot be controlled
