Focusing on local history, legendary locals and hidden history of HB, about 100 of the columns were published in a best-selling book once the column ended. Concept: "In the Pipeline" still has so much local cachet and equity amongst locals, and to that end, this proposal is for a local episodic Channel 3 series of the same name. The proposed (initial) 13-episode series will be comprised of 15-minute episodes, each of which will include 2- 3 stories (which can be modular to allow for individual "story-sharing" across the city's social media platforms. This unique content will be unlike any other content ever produced by the city. The host: Chris Epting recently hosted the award-winning television series (REELZ Channel) called "It Happened Here." As well, for six years he hosted "Forgotten Orange County" on PBS- TV and appears regularly in documentaries and other television shows all over the world. But first and foremost, this longtime resident he loves Huntington Beach and the stories behind the city. He has written six books on history Huntington Beach and regularly gives historic lectures and historic walking tours, all of which are very well attended. His love and advocacy of HB is both well documented and well respected. Show content: "In the Pipeline" will explore the history of everything in Huntington Beach, from music to surf culture, to former legendary locations such as Meadowlark Airport and the Golden Bear night club. We will examine the important nature in Huntington Beach and give people an inside look at the wetlands. Using Chris's skills as a host, journalist and storyteller, the show explore stories that have never been told before, incorporating vintage photos, rare film clips and exclusive interviews with legendary locals. The "Why?" There has never been an episodic documentary series that reveals, celebrates and preserves the history of Huntington Beach. On that level, In the Pipeline would not just be entertaining and informative but also an important public service that would serve future generations. Sample episode breakdown: Episode 1: The Bolsa Chica Gun Club and the famed "Pacific Flyway" Episode 2: From surf to punk, the downtown music history of Huntington Beach. Episode 3: Re-discovering the 1920 oil boom, from the encyclopedia lots to the most dramatic gushers. 1 Episode 4: Veterans in the community, build around 41h of July parade and/or the Great Pacific Air show. Episode 5: Sports legends of Huntington Beach. Episode 6: Inside the downtown historic walking tour. Episode 7: Haunted HB, all the best little-know tales. Episode 8: The best bird watching in the OC. Episode 9: The most historic remaining structures in HB. Episode 10: The most famous residents in history. Episode 11: True crime mysteries of HB Episode 12: Meadowlark Airport, a requiem Episode 13: Surf culture in HB. Responsibilities of host: Chris Epting will research, write and host the episodic series. He will be responsible as well for all of the vintage images used in the show (which will be included in the budget). His proposed fee for the project would be $1,200.00 per episode. With a contract not to exceed $20,000. 2
