HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2020-45 RESOLUTION NO. 2020-45 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH DECLARING THAT WE STAND TOGETHER IN UNITY. WHEREAS,in times of distress,the Huntington Beach community stands together in unity in support of one another; and WHEREAS,the senseless killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police Officers on May 25,2020 has led to an outpouring of grief and outrage over the violence that has disproportionately affected black Americans;and WHEREAS,we desire to protect the rights of those who protest peacefully to raise awareness about social injustice and promote greater inclusivity. However, we will never tolerate any acts of violence or rioting, so that we may protect the wellbeing of our entire community; and WHEREAS, the City of Huntington Beach stands together in unity with our neighbors and our partners who provided critical mutual aid in our time of need to help ensure the safety of all who sought to peaceful protest in Surf City; and WHEREAS,our Police Department is committed to being transparent and accountable for the actions of all officers and remains dedicated to community oriented policing practices WHEREAS, especially now, in these challenging times, the City of Huntington Beach stands together. NOW, THEREFORE,the City Council proclaims its commitment to stand together in unity and to facilitate dialogue against all forms of intolerance,racism and hate.We remain united,especially during these historic times that have challenged our community to listen, learn and embrace our racial diversity. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 15th day of June ,2020 by the following vote.
