SUPPLEMENTAL Attachments: Pasadena jpg COMMUNICATION Meeting Data: From: Bobbi Ashurst<bobbiashurst@rocketmail.com> Agenda Item No., Sent:Sunday,July 19, 2020 9:59 PM To: CITY COUNCIL<city.council@surfcity-hb.org>; Handy, Robert<Robert.Handy@hbpd.org> Subject:When will we start leading, in a good way? City Council persons, Well, we were back in the news this week.. I'm sure you all saw the news accounts of the protests this Saturday. BLM on one side of PCH, Trump and recall Newsom on the other. At least we didn't have the abundance of police in riot gear as in the past...at least not on the news...I wasn't there this time so I'm just going by the reports. You know what wasn't in abundance? Masks, Social distancing..... 3 cities in Los Angeles county, 2 beach cities, Santa Monica, and Manhattan Beach are now writing tickets with fines from $100 to $350. Even Costa Mesa is fining for non mask wearers. Riverside County: $1,000 fine for anyone not wearing a face-covering in public San Bernardino County: $1,000 fine for anyone not wearing a face-covering in public But not here. We have unfunded liabilities, homeless issues, and financial issues that we could use some new income sources to fund. But no. So people can not just escape the heat inland by coming to Huntington Beach but avoid the responsibility of mask use as well! Our HBPD doesn't wear masks even when standing around the protesters who are neither wearing masks nor socially distancing. Are they somehow immune? And what happens when someone gets stopped by an officer for the ever famous tail light out? Does one have to roll down the window if the officer is not wearing a mask? Will the officer stand 6 feet away when asking for your drivers license? I see officers in other cities wearing masks. Why is it more feasible for them but not us? Why is there such a politicization of mask wearing? Because those "leaders" in positions of authority completely shirk their responsibilities. At the top and all the way down to the city level there are few true leaders prepared to do what needs to be done to get this city off the (please excuse my vulgarity) shit list and get this economy rolling again! Come on folks! This isn't an issue that's going away! Covid will be here through the summer, into the fall, and will really be a mess when combined with the flu season! I'm not 1 preaching fear but common sense! Those of you who are counting on the Tea Party to vote you back in are going to be very disappointed when they are all in the hospital..... P)lease get on the ball, and start leading! Check out my attachment to see what a joke we've become.
