Sent: Wednesday, June 2, 2021 10:19 AM
To: CITY COUNCIL<city.council@surfcity-hb.org>
Subject: Please appoint Oscar Rodriguez to HBCC
To the Honorable Members of the Huntington Beach City Council,
I am writing today to support and recommend the Huntington Beach City Council appoint community activist, organizer,
and leader, Oscar Rodriguez, to fill the vacancy left last night by Tito Ortiz.
I strongly believe Oscar is the most qualified person for this seat.
I met Oscar in 2017 when I began doing community work within Huntington Beach. Oscar had already been working for
the community, as a co-founder of ComUNIDAD, a grassroots environmental justice group based in the Oak View
community. They took on Rainbow Environmental Services in protest of Rainbow's air quality environmental violations,
which directly affected the health and well-being of children in the Oak View neighborhood. Oscar and the Oak View
ComUNIDAD won that fight, bringing much-needed environmental justice to the Oak View community.
I was thrilled when Oscar decided to run for City Council in 2020, and I dedicated a lot of time and energy to his
campaign, which was powered by the people of Huntington Beach. Oscar built coalitions with both Natalie Moser and
Dan Kalmick during that time and I have no doubt that Oscar's work (along with their own work, of course) helped to
propel those two candidates to the seats in which they sit today.
Oscar ran his campaign during a worldwide pandemic and organized a weekly food and clothing distribution during this
time, bringing relief to families who may not have survived without it.
As an Asset Manager with the Orange County Community Housing Corporation/SteppingUP, he has proven knowledgeable
and helpful to low-income families by assisting them with housing and education.
Councilmember Natalie Moser appointed Oscar Rodriguez to the Huntington Beach Planning Commission and he has
served in that seat with dignity and honor.
This City Council has been moving towards a more inclusive, more compassionate city, something so many of us have
been working to do. Appointing Oscar Rodriguez to this vacant seat will certainly help to move us forward in these shared
goals.
Thank you for your consideration.

Subject: Filling of the City Council Vacancy
Due to the resignation of Tito Ortiz from city council, it is incumbent on the current Council to Honor The Vote by letting
the voters decide on who should be appointed to Council to fill his vacancy. The truly democratic procedure would be to
honor the vote and appoint the individual that received the next highest votes in the November 3rd, 2020 election.
Gracey Van Der Mark received the 4th most votes in the 2020 election with 23,365 votes which is thousands of votes
more than the other candidates. The voters must decide on who fills this Council vacancy.
Section 312(a) of the City Charter reads, "A vacancy in the City Council or in any other office designated as elective by
this Charter, from whatever cause arising, shall be filled by appointment by the City Council." We must honor the will of
the people and therefore must Honor the Vote and appoint Gracey Van Der Mark to fill this Council vacancy.

Dear City Council,
In light of several new changes in the city, specifically regarding to the council 1 felt compelled to write. In
regards to the unfortunate news of Mr. Ortiz leaving the council, without any question, the council should select
the next highest vote-getter, Gracey Van Der Mark, and follow the will of the people of Huntington Beach. It is
the ONLY fair way to decide who should be the next council member.
Secondly, 1 was shocked to hear of the questioning of our City Attorney, Michael Gates' abilities and/or
spending. He is without a doubt one of the only publicly known city employees that most members of this city
have any faith in. (aside from the great work of Erik Peterson of course)Our city attorney has done a
FANTASTIC job.

Mayor Carr and City Council Members,
With the resignation of Mayor Pro Tem Ortiz, you are empowered with the selection of a new council member and with
the election of a new mayor pro tem. The City charter provides direction on how these responsibilities are
handled. Election of the new mayor pro temp is the easiest of the two tasks. The appointment of a new council
member appears to be a complex issue.
What would be fair and would honor the will of the people would be to appoint the candidate that came in 4" in the
November 2020 election. That candidate is Gracey Van Der Mark. Ms. Van Der Mark has the knowledge and experience
in city governance. She has served as a Finance Commissioner and currently is a Planning Commissioner for the
City. Gracey is extremely qualified and a long time resident of Huntington Beach.
I urge you to put your bias aside and appoint the most qualified candidate to the open seat on the non-partisan City
Council. I urge to honor the vote and appoint Gracey Van Der Mark.
Thank you.

Subject: Huntington Beach City Council Appointment for Fill Vacant Council Seat
To the Honorable Members of the Huntington Beach City Council,
I am writing as a long-time resident of Huntington Beach to support and recommend the Huntington Beach City
Council appoint community activist, organizer and leader, Oscar Rodriguez to fill the vacancy resulting in the
resignation of Tito Ortiz.
I strongly believe Oscar is the most qualified.
As a first-time candidate for Huntington Beach City Council in 2020, Oscar came in 5" out of 15 candidates with more
than 21,000 votes. Following the 2020 election he was appointed by City Councilmember Natalie Moser, to serve on
the Huntington Beach Planning Commission.
Over the last 16 months during the worst pandemic in our lifetime, Oscar was a Mutual Aide organizer distributing
weekly food, clothing,
much-needed baby supplies to the community. In addition, when Orange County Communities of Color were being
disproportionately affected by Covid-19, Oscar helped to establish vaccine sites in the community.
In addition, Oscar is the co-founder of ComUNIDAD, a grassroots environmental justice group based in the Oak View
community, who took on Rainbow Environmental Services in protest of Rainbow's air quality environmental
violations, directly affecting the health and well-being of children in the Oak View neighborhood.
Oscar's day job is an Asset Manager with Orange County Community Housing Corporation/SteppingUP, a county
program that transitions low income families by assisting them with housing and education.
As the city moves towards a more inclusive, more compassionate city, the Huntington Beach City Council has an
opportunity to do the right thing. There is no greater choice to fill the city council vacancy than Oscar Rodriguez.
Sincerely,
Karen Hinks

At this unusual time our city council is faced with the rare occasion of replacing a city council member who submitted his resignation
mid term. Yes our charter allows you to choose his replacement by a council majority but this will deny the election results unless this
position is given to the Next Highest vote-getter. Tito claimed the highest vote given to a candidate in our cities history and the ethical
thing to do would be to pick Gracey Van Der Mark as she was next in line in the order of votes. Any other person picked a price will

Hello,
I am a resident of Huntington Beach. As news of Tito's resignation has hit news outlets, I think your job got harder as the
echo chamber calling for replacements grows. Ideally I would like to see a special ballot done to elect the replacement
city council member.
I do not support Grace Vander Mark, and believe she would bring the same issues and problems as seen with Tito.
I know that there are calls to use the results from the 2020 election but I'd like to think the landscape of Huntington
Beach politics is changed after watching Tito's antics smear the face and public perception of what Huntington Beach is
and could be. We've got real problems that deserve collaborative ideas and not the pearl clutching and condescension
that has come from various community members. Mr Rogers would not be proud of the ugly behavior displayed by
these people.
Bipartisanship means compromise and change.
Thank you for time in reading this and consideration of my voting voice in the decision you make.

Subject: Filling the Vacant Seat of Tito Ortiz
To the Honorable Members of the Huntington Beach City Council. agenda Itan No.:
I am a proud Huntington Beach resident writing today to express my concerns over Gracey Van Der Mark
being appointed to fill the city council seat of Tito Ortiz
While I understand that Gracey was appointed to the Planning Commission by Mr. Ortiz, she has made
comments in the past that do not reflect our beautiful city's values. She has publicly denied the Holocaust.
while fraternizing with known white supremacists such as Baked Alaska. In the past, she has made
incredibly racist statements such as by saying that ' Blacks should stop 'whining about slavery." She has
also made anti-semitic statements. notably through her statement that "Jews are using 'colored people as
their 'muscle."'
I ask you this: do you believe that Gracey deserves to be rewarded with a seat on our city council after
making outrageous statements such as what I mentioned above? Do you condone her behavior?
I certainly don t. Gracey's statements do not reflect my Huntington Beach values.
There is a better choice than Gracey who I believe is highly qualified to fill the seat of Tito Ortiz. I
recommend that the Huntington Beach City Council appoint community activist, organizer and leader.
Oscar Rodriguez to fill the vacancy resulting in the resignation of Tito Ortiz
I strongly believe Oscar is more qualified than Gracey
As a first-time candidate for Huntington Beach City Council in 2020, Oscar came in 5th out of 15
candidates with more than 21 .000 votes. Following the 2020 election he was appointed by City
Councilmember Natalie Moser, to serve on the Huntington Beach Planning Commission.
Over the last 16 months during the worst pandemic in our lifetime. Oscar was a Mutual Aide organizer
distributing weekly food, clothing, much needed baby supplies to the community In addition. when
Orange County Communities of Color were being disproportionately affected by Covid-19. Oscar helped
to establish vaccine sites in the community
In addition. Oscar is the co-founder of ComUNIDAD, a grassroots environmental justice group based in
the Oak View community, who took on Rainbow Environmental Services in protest of Rainbows air quality
environmental violations. directly affecting the health and well-being of children in the Oak View
neighborhood.
Oscar's day job is an Asset Manager with Orange County Community Housing CorporationiSteppingUP, a
county program that transitions low income families by assisting them with housing and education.
i
As the city moves towards a more inclusive, more compassionate city, the Huntington Beach City Council
has an opportunity to do the right thing. There is no greater choice to fill the city council vacancy than
Oscar Rodriguez.

Subject: Filling of the city Council vacancy
Due to the resignation of Tito Ortiz from city council, it is incumbent on the current Council to Honor The Vote
by letting the voters decide on who should be appointed to Council to fill his vacancy. The truly democratic
procedure would be to honor the vote and appoint the individual that received the next highest votes in the
November 3rd, 2020 election.
Gracey Van Der Mark received the 4th most votes in the 2020 election with 23,365 votes which is thousands of
votes more than the other candidates. The voters must decide on who fills this Council vacancy.
Section 312(a) of the City Charter reads, "A vacancy in the City Council or in any other office designated as
elective by this Charter, from whatever cause arising, shall be filled by appointment by the City Council." We
must honor the will of the people and therefore must Honor the Vote and appoint Gracey Van Der Mark to fill
this Council vacancy.

Hello,
I am a native of Huntington Beach and have seen it develop and change quite a bit over my 48 years. I was very thankful
last night when I read of Tito's resignation. His antics have brought shame to my hometown. I strongly believe that
seating Gracie Van Der Mark in his place will welcome more of the same partisan politics and grandstanding that Tito
was known for. I am hopeful that voters on both sides of the political spectrum recognize the lack of value that this
brings to our local politics. I look forward to a Special Election where voters can reflect on lessons learned and vote for
mature, responsible leadership that will work for the betterment of our community.

Hey there,
I know you're going to hear from a lot of Tito supporters who want you to appoint Van Der Mark because she came in
4th in last year's election. However, that's comparing apples to oranges because we were allowed to choose three
candidates, so the vote was split. Please stay away from anyone who is associated with that nut-job Tito Ortiz, haha!
Thanks so much,

To the Honorable Members of the Huntington Beach City Council,
As a Huntington Beach resident. I am writing today to support and recommend the Huntington Beach City Council
appoint community activist, organizer and leader, Oscar Rodriguez to fill the vacancy resulting in the resignation of Tito
Ortiz.
I strongly believe Oscar is the most qualified.
As a first-time candidate for Huntington Beach City Council in 2020, Oscar came in 5th out of 15 candidates with more
than 21,000 votes. Following the 2020 election he was appointed by City Councilmember Natalie Moser, to serve on the
Huntington Beach Planning Commission.
Over the last 16 months during the worst pandemic in our lifetime, Oscar was a Mutual Aide organizer distributing
weekly food, clothing, much needed baby supplies to the community. In addition, when Orange County Communities of
Color were being disproportionately affected by Covid-19, Oscar helped to establish vaccine sites in the community.
In addition, Oscar is the co-founder of ComUNIDAD, a grassroots environmental justice group based in the Oak View
community, who took on Rainbow Environmental Services in protest of Rainbow's air quality environmental violations,
directly affecting the health and well-being of children in the Oak View neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Karla Navarro

Council members -
Recognizing the City Charter empowers you to appoint the new Council Member, as stewards of HB's public trust it is
vital that your decision reflect the will of the city's voters. While I did not vote for her in the 2020 election, I understand
Gracey Van Der Mark received the 4th largest number of votes. While not my choice, she should be named our newest
City Council member. Appointing anyone else would be a violation of the public trust and undermine our free and fair
election process.

It is incumbent on the current Council to Honor The Vote by letting the voters decide on who should be appointed to

In light of Tito Ortiz' resignation, please consider Oscar Rodriguez for City Council. In addition to coming in fifth in the last
council race, he is a HB resident who has shown true dedication to the community over years time. He is a graduate of
Ocean View School District and Cal State Long Beach. He cofounded Oak View ComUnidad, and has been active in the
neighborhood through many projects, among which is food distribution every Friday. He helped get Rainbow Disposal's
trash dump under control. He has work experience with low income housing, and he currently advises on air quality

Dear Council Members,
I'm writing in support of Gina Clayton-Tarvin to replace Tito Ortiz on the City Council, and as Mayor Pro-Tem. She is an
experienced, elected public servant, who's shown unwavering dedication to serving the city and people of Huntington
Beach, as both OVSD Trustee and a voice for the health and welfare of the community during this pandemic, upholding
masking protocols and standing firm when anti-mask agitators, including Mr. Ortiz, endangered the public by refusing to
wear a mask and spread anti-science falsehoods about the need to do so. She will stand strong for the people of HB.
I also object to any consideration of Gracey Van derMark, who it's well known works with white supremacists like Oath
Keepers, who are implicated in Jan 6th insurrection on our Capitol and conspiracy against the United States government-
, and who presents the same problems of putting the city at risk of legal action for blocking and harassing people from
fake accounts on social media.
We have a chance to move Huntington Beach forward, show the world that we look toward the future for ALL, and
reject the actions of white supremacists who've wreaked havoc on our community, to negative worldwide attention.
Thank you,
Lisa Marquise

To the Honorable Members of the Huntington Beach City Council.
1 am writing today to support and recommend the Huntington Beach City Council appoint community activist,
organizer and leader. Oscar Rodriguez to fill the vacancy resulting in the resignation of Tito Ortiz.
I strongly believe Oscar is the most qualified.
As a first-time candidate for Huntington Beach City Council in 2020. Oscar came in 5th out of 15 candidates
with more than 21.000 votes. Following the 2020 election he was appointed by City Councilmember Natalie
Moser, to serve on the Huntington Beach Planning Commission.
Over the last 16 months during the worst pandemic in our liletime. Oscar was a Mutual Aide organizer
distributing weekly food. clothing. much needed baby supplies to the community. In addition, when Orange
County Communities of Color were being disproportionately affected by Covid-19. Oscar helped to establish
vaccine sites in the community.
In addition. Oscar is the co-founder of ComUNIDAD, a grassroots environmental justice group based in the
Oak View c0nununiry, who took on Rainbow Environmental Services in protest of Rainbow's air quality
environmental violations. directly affecting the health and well-being of children in the Oak View
neighborhood.
Oscar's day job is an Asset Manager with Orange County Community Housing Corporation/SteppingUP, a
county program that transitions low income families by assisting them with housing and education.
As the city moves towards a more inclusive, more compassionate city, the Huntington Beach City Council has
an opportunity to do the right thing. There is no greater choice to fill the city council vacancy than Oscar
Rodriguez.
Sincerely.

Mayor and City Council Members,
I understand that it is the responsibility of the City Council to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Ortiz per
Section 312 of the City Charter. I am in no way debating the validity of said charter. Rather I am writing to point out a few
more items from the charter I feel are important reminders for City Council when it comes time for each of you to make a
decision and the new council member is appointed.
Attachment (1) The City of Huntington Beach Organization Chart.
Please see the first bubble... "THE PEOPLE". The People is me, my adult children, family, friends and neighbors who
reside in Huntington Beach. And, we, The People, participated in an election. An election in which we cast our votes as
The People for our candidates of preference in a representative democracy.
Attachment (2) Page 11 of the City Manual, Page 1 of the Charter
Paragraph 2 reads as follows:
It is incumbent upon those who govern and make decisions for and on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach to legally, as
well as morally, abide by the provisions of this Charter, in its strictest sense, to assure the continued success and well-
being of our fair City.
Attachment (3) City of Huntington Beach Code of Ethics
Responsibility
• I understand that the community expects me to serve with dignity and respect, as well as be an agent of the democratic
process.
1 feel the Code Of Ethics should be read in its entirety, and often, by every Council Member. That is not a personal attack
by any means, but in my opinion a powerful tool that could and most definitely should be used by each and every member
if the council,
For now, I draw your attention to section Responsibility, first line item. It is my hope that each of you understands the
weight of your responsibility in being the agent for the voices of Huntington Beach. We spoke during the election, and we
do not get to raise our voices again. We must depend on each of you to speak for us.
We, "The People of Huntington Beach", elected each of you "those who govern and make decisions for and on behalf of
the City of Huntington Beach to legally, as well as morally, abide by the provisions of this Charter, in its strictest sense" to
be our representatives and in that is the responsibility to be the stewards of our democracy and make our votes stand.
Gracey Van Der Mark is the next choice of the people and therefore should be the choice of the council who represents
us.

Attachment(1) The City of Huntington Beach Organization Chart.
Please see the first bubble... "THE PEOPLE". The People is me, my adult children, family, friends and neighbors who
reside in Huntington Beach. And, we, The People, participated in an election. An election in which we cast our votes as
The People for our candidates of preference in a representative democracy.
Attachment(2) Page 11 of the City Manual, Page 1 of the Charter
Paragraph 2 reads as follows:
It is incumbent upon those who govern and make decisions for and on behalf of the City of Huntington Beach to legally, as
well as morally, abide by the provisions of this Charter, in its strictest sense, to assure the continued success and well-
being of our fair City.
Attachment (3) City of Huntington Beach Code of Ethics
Responsibility
• I understand that the community expects me to serve with dignity and respect, as well as be an agent of the democratic
process.
I feel the Code Of Ethics should be read in its entirety, and often, by every Council Member.

Gracey Van Der Mark is the next choice of the people and therefore should be the choice of the council who represents
us.

In the wake of Tito Ortiz resigning I have become informed of Section 312 (a) of our City Charter which states that our
city council can choose who they want to fill the empty seat.
It is my duty as a citizen of Huntington Beach to inform YOU, the members of our city council, that this Charter policy
violates the constitution of the United States and you are being placed on notice to uphold our constitution word for
word based on the oath you took to serve the citizens of Huntington Beach. If you CHOOSE to violate the constitution
"We The People of HB" will have no choice other than to serve you legal documents packaged in a pretty bow by retired
Generals and Lieutenants of our United States military that are just itching to get to work on restoring our city/country
to a Constitutional Republic. We are a grassroots movement in HB that's studying the constitution and we are ready and
waiting to spring into action to hold all of you accountable for your actions. Don't forget who you serve and who pays
you. The constitution says ALL of you can be replaced if you don't serve us. The people of Huntington Beach have spoken
and Gracey Van Der Mark earned her seat as the next City Council member of Huntington Beach.
Thank you for your time

Hello:
With the now vacant cite Council member spot that you will be considering, there appears to be a push &or an
"honor the vote" choice. meaning instating the person who received the fourth highest votes from November's
election.
Please understand that there is a huge problem with this methodology: this person only received a small fraction
of the number of eligible votes in this city and is HUGELY problematic.
With Jacob Orti s entrance into city council of our city. the city became a laughing stock of the world. "The
Florida of California" was a favorite insult and it was all directed at Mr. Ortiz's public antics. Please understand
that Ms. Van Der Mark will be no different and in some ways much, nnich worse. There is photographic
evidence of her involvement in white supremacist movements and associations with Neo Nazi hate groups. This
is very disturbing to my family and we would be very uncomfortable with her being considered for any position
of leadership in our city. In fact. I urge you to consider the public backlash that this will entail. including
widespread media reports of her dark history. Let's stop inviting this, please. We are all so tired of it.
Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Mayor and City Council Members.
Thank you for your time and service to our community. We live in the best City in Orange County.
Last night's news of Mayor Pro Tern Tito Ortiz stepping down is a gut punch to our community. It is extremely
sad and disappointing on one hand but angers me and my family deeply on the other.
Tito is a good man. He has a good reputation in our town and many residents respect and appreciate his service
to our community. We must never forget he had the largest number of votes ever. This is the community voting
for who they wanted.
I follow local politics and follow our FIB social media sites. It was clear from day one that there was an all out
witch hunt against Tito. It was also clear he was never going to be left alone to do his job. People like Gina
Clayton Tarvin, Victor Valderes. FIB Huddle. Indivisible and other radical left groups were going to do
FVFRYTFIING in their power to remove him. It was disgusting to read and watch. Imagine if these people
spent the same about of time actually volunteering and helping the community the amount of good that could be
done for HB residents.
The amount of negativity and hate that was shown to Tito was despicable and very disheartening. No one
agrees with everyone 100% of the time. The beauty of a City Council is having a balance of different views so
that all can be served notjust one segment of the voter population. If the leaders of the attacks on Tito and his
family truly cared about the residents. they would respect that 40,000 people voted for him for a reason. You
may not like Tito and some things he has done but your neighbors voted for him.
The fact that some on this Council participated in this constant harassment and bullying and even encouraged it
from outsiders is truly a disgrace. Huntington Beach is better than this and it's residents deserve better. Our City
Council must represent all of us notjust the constituents you are cozy with.
If she is still interested in serving. I am in support of appointing Gracey Van Der Mark to fill this newly vacant
position. By my recollection she has the next highest votes and beat out the next candidate by thousands of
votes. Frn asking that this City Council, please listen to it's residents, and honor their votes for Gracey Van Der
Mark.
Sincerely.

Here is why Oscar is the most qualified;
As a first-time candidate for Huntington Beach Citv Council in 2020. Oscar came in 5th out of 15 candidates

Since the beginning of the worldwide COVID-19. Coronavirus, pandemic. Oscar has organized weekly food,

Oscar's day job is as an Asset Manager with Orange County Community Housing Corporation/SteppingUP

Section 312(a) of the City Charter reads, "A vacancy in the City Council or in
any other office designated as elective by this Charter, from whatever cause
arising, shall be filled by appointment by the City Council." We must honor the
will of the people and therefore must Honor the Vote and appoint Gracey Van
Der Mark to fill this Council vacancy.
Gracey Van Der Mark received the 4th most votes in the 2020 election with
23,365 votes which is thousands of votes more than the other candidates. The
voters must decide on who fills this Council vacancy.

Discourse is discouraging. What is going on over there? I just heard Tito had to resign due to community opposition. Are we
not on the same team?are we not representing the same city? do we not have the same values? Family Faith and culture it's
what Huntington Beach has been about since I can remember and probably your parents and grandparents can remember.
What is the future look like to you all in Huntington Beach I'd really like to know? Are we still focusing on family and
community? Are we still at city that supports surf culture first? We all saw the huge push for tourism and we still feel the
repercussions... parking lots didn't get bigger, roads didn't get bigger, though the crowds did. We're going with the flow way
too much and not being heard correctly. Most people in this town have a conservative Outlook that doesn't mean anything
other than stop pushing Us in the other direction please, we're wise enough to coincide. I just think there's a little too much
drama going on over there and we should stay United on what our focus is as a city and stop catering to agendas.

Dear City Counsil,
Due to the resignation of Tito Ortiz from city council, it is incumbent on the current Council to Honor The Vote by letting
the voters decide on who should be appointed to Council to fill his vacancy.
Section 312(a) of the City Charter reads, "A vacancy in the City Council or in any other office designated as elective by
this Charter, from whatever cause arising, shall be filled by appointment by the City Council." We must honor the will of
the people and therefore must Honor the Vote and appoint Gracey Van Der Mark to fill this Council vacancy.

which we can proudly raise our families and call our home. Dom represents strength and unity and I

Subject: Filling of vacant slot on the council
Members of the Council.
I am currently on the Zoom call listening to those speaking on behalfof Gracey Van Der Mark for the vacancy
and I felt it was essential 1 share my opinion on it. as I too am a resident of Huntington Beach. First and
foremost, as I understand it, the argument that the citizens picked Gracey is invalid as vacancies are supposed to
be appointed by the council, not automatically given to a runner up. You as the elected council have the right to
make your own decision and doing so IS part of the democratic process, as you were elected to do such things.
Now let me explain my opposition to ms \%an Der `vfark. I am a Jewish American and Nahile it was embarrassing
enough to have a clanon conspiracy theory believer on the council, it would be even worse if the council were to
appoint someone who has been photographed numerous times with white supremacists. She has been
condenmed by the ADL for her statements about "elderly Jews" controlling "colored people" and when her
supporters defend her, they claim some nonsense about her husband being part .Jewish, a fact that is irrelevant
AND not even verifiable. "three matter of the elderly Jews bit hits deep, as that plays into a long lasting anti
Semitic trope that the Jew controls minorities in order to eliminate the white. At a time where we've been
seeing anti Semitic rhetoric becoming more and more common place, with hate crimes rising at unprecedented
levels. and in a town where a white lives matter rally was scheduled. we don't need to be promoting this
mentality by appointing someone where, even if] give benefit of the doubt and say she somehow was
misunderstood in all of this and isn't a bigot. the bigots think she is... this is a great town and I actively chose
for it to be my home. One thing you have to know is that while those folks are loud. they are not the majority of
this town. Gracey received 8% of the vote... that's not "the people making a clear statement" like her supporters
would like you believe.
Anyway, ultimately. I wish. regardless of park preference. for the council to not select someone defined by the
hatred of others; but rather someone who wishes to help ALL in this community. I vehemently oppose the
appointment of Gracey Van Der Mark and I nominate Oscar Rodriguez as a replacement.
"thank you.
