It is not even Memorial Weekend, and we have a dire warning of what's coming in the next 5 months! Rather than detail the suffering sirens, incessant helicopter noise, fireworks, and young people roaming our streets until 3 AM, I'll get directly to my questions: How could something like this happen, when officials, citizens and apparently millions of social media followers knew exactly where this event was to take place? Why wasn't our City Council and public safety officials prepared for this 10-hour disruption to downtown area residents, and recovering business owners? Why, after the embarrassing and disgraceful outsider political disruptions of 2020, are there still major "DISTURBING THE PEACE" events allowed to paralyze our beaches and downtown neighborhoods? Here are some suggestions you might consider: Close the beaches at 9 PM Close Main Street Bars at 10 PM Re-evaluate your continuing marketing of our main beach as a never-ending CIRCUS Dig deep, and show some respect for longtime residents who pay their taxes for their rights to some peace, security and safety. This is insulting to us. Since I never get a return contact by our elected officials to my letters, in this case I really want to hear from you regarding these issues I have raised. (As I write this, starting at 8:30 pm tonight (Sunday), the helicopter began constant circling of downtown, with loudspeaker blaring and now fireworks starting.) Sincerely, Donald Slaven 225 Alabama St. 92648 714-536-1220
