Please let us know if you have any questions. The Registrar of Voters provides this ESTIMATE of costs for your preliminary planning purposes for a stand-alone election. Actual costs will be applied in compliance with OMB A-87 and will include labor and overhead, supplies, services, and other expenditures incurred during the election. Invoices and spreadsheets outlining actual costs may be examined following receipt of all invoices related to the election upon request. I hope that you will carefully review those candidates being considered as his replacement. I am aware of a large email campaign in support of Gracey Vandermark. In light of many posts made by her in the past as well as videos. I hope you reject her out right. Many of her supporters will deny she made the posts. but 1 and many others saw them posted in real time. The one that stands out in my mind the most is the picture she posted on Donald Trump's I00th day in office. It was a picture ofher son wearing a gas mask posing with Kyle Chapman, AKA Based Stickman. He is a violent white nationalist who has been on FBI watchlists. Over the past year, our city has become a laughing stock across the country because of the behavior of a loud minority. Do we want to give more fodder to the media by appointing someone who associates with Proud Boys to our city council'? Wasn't the Tito debacle enough'? Of those candidates remaining, I feel Oscar Rodriguez would be the best choice. I first heard of him through his outreach work with underserved communities. This is the type of picture we should be portraying to the citizens of Huntington Beach and the rest of the country. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts on this matter. Sincerely. He would serve the Council with distinction and honor. I do not have the privilege of living in HB but my best friends do, so I am in Huntington Beach quite frequently and spend a considerable amount of my money there. Hello City Council — The City of Huntington Beach Charter is quite clear about the city council having sole authority for appointing the replacement for any city council member unable or unwilling to serve the entirety of a full standard term. This is your decision and your decision alone. As an informed resident, I was aware of this provision in our city charter and suggested to everyone who would listen to simply relax and let our remaining council members make their selection. Unfortunately, like so many things in Huntington Beach, the loudest and angriest voice couldn't help themselves, and started "demanding" a specific selection less than 24 hours after Mr. Ortiz announced his resignation. I've never been fond of"loud and angry." Being loudest doesn't make you right and being angry is destructive and wasteful. As we go forward as a community, I believe the residents of Huntington Beach deserve better than loud and angry. I believe we need a constructive voice, a voice of a community advocate and a voice of that will participate as a constructive partner in moving our city forward. While I originally felt it better to simply standby and allow our city council to make their appointment without outside influence, it is clear influence has already been applied. Due to this environment, I no longer feel that I can merely stand by. I would support the appointment of Mr. Oscar Rodriguez for Huntington Beach City Council. I would ask at this time to look at the situation as a gift, an opportunity to steer the city in a better direction than we have gone in the past. I ask that you choose someone that brings to the table skills that would round out the strengths and weaknesses of the current council. I ask that you do not choose someone who has a questionable past linked to crazy conspiracy theories, or those involved with white supremacy groups, or sympathizers. I ask that you find the courage to do what is right for the residents of HB and appoint the right person for the job. I am not going to pretend to know who is the perfect fit, as I do not know who is being considered. You will never make everyone happy, however you have a great opportunity to gain back our reputation as a beautiful sea side community, and lose the reputation as a city of hate, a city the condones white supremacy, and a city of crazy elected officials. My name is Russell Neal and I live in Huntington Beach. I would like to encourage the council to "respect the vote" and fill the vacancy created by Mr. Ortiz's resignation with the first runner-up from November's election, Gracey Van Der Mark, or failing that, by a special election. In addition to being the next highest vote-getter in the election, Mrs. Van Der Mark is largely aligned politically with Mr. Ortiz, and so her appointment would keep the council makeup similar to that chosen by the voters. I also note that in terms of votes per dollar spent, Mrs. Van Der Mark did five to ten times as well as the three successful candidates. She and her supporters spent less than 2% of the money spent on all 15 candidates. Her success for this modest expenditure reflects her inherent support among the voters. There were over a million dollars spent on this election. I suspect the special interests involved are adequately represented on the council, but I think the voters who gave Mr. Ortiz the highest number of votes of any candidate in Huntington Beach history deserve their representation as well. Appointing Gracey Van Der Mark to fill his seat will "respect the vote" and grant the voters that representation. Ever since I first met him years ago. I have been struck by Oscar's dedication to underserved communities as well as leveling the playing field for all Huntington Beach residents. His amazing work as a grassroots activist and organizer for his beloved community of OakView COmUNIDAD is a testament to his hard work ethic and his never forgetting where he comes from. His dedication to his neighborhood and people is but one highlight in this young man's passionate dedication and commitment to serving others. What more sincere quality could one ask for in such a compassionate local resident who keeps giving of his time and energy? He is also a team player who works well with all those he comes in contact with whether it be for voter registration drives. challenging and reforming waste management practices that were not ideal (such as open pollution near a community school), or working with local and state non-profits to curb excessive and cost- prohibitive desalination plans for the city which would have had a potentially catastrophic negative environmental impact on Huntington Beach's renowned coastal areas. He would curb excessive spending on extravagances while simultaneously advancing equality and a guaranteed voice for all city residents and their corresponding socioeconomically diverse neighborhoods. He would treat everyone equally and his record of integrity would ensure that no one is given special treatment and yet no one disrespected nor dismissed either. All city residents and business would be treated fairly and according to merit and ability. Mr. Rodriguez also has enough experience haying worked in various public and political atmospheres to understand and pass resolutions, enforce or revise city ordinances, and a host of other needed assets and skills to both interact with private residents and businesses and well as public organizations to find common ground and solutions possibly mutually benefitting all involved. His willingness to be a team player to work out remedies and solutions for everyone involved cannot be overstated. He understands the crucial role of mediating complex issues with an amicable goal for all parties. I have been a resident of Huntington Beach for 40 years. I have raised my family here and now my grandchildren are enjoying the benefits of living in Huntington Beach. I am a retired licensed clinical social worker and spent the last 24 years of my career working at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. As a social worker I know how important community support and outreach is and I know what community service looks like. Since retiring I have had the opportunity to engage in various volunteer activities. For the past several months, during this pandemic, I have especially been impressed with the efforts and outreach of La Communidad on Friday mornings in the Oakview area of Huntington Beach. I am especially grateful to Oscar Rodriguez for bringing together this community in so many ways. He has networked with individuals, organizations, churches, nonprofits, to bring food, diapers, gift cards, and other much needed items to the residents of this area. I have seen him interact with donors and recipients alike. His skills include organization, encouragement and affirmation, knowledge of needs and where to find resources. He exhibits leadership, and tirelessness. He exhibits a calmness and "can do" attitude. He has made this outreach program into one that people can depend upon, feel good about participating in at all levels, and a hopefulness that working together does not stop here. There is much to accomplish and he brings needed synergy into the mix that points to bigger and better things ahead. They won that fight and have helped the children now breathe cleaner air when out playing on the school playground. Oscar has also helped low income families by assisting them with housing and education thanks to his knowledge from being an Asset manager with the Orange County Community Housing Corporation/SteppingUp. Oscar is a true pillar of the community and has been helping the less fortunate members of the city since well before the election and pandemic. For example, Oscar co-founded the Oak View ComUNIDAD in order to help the Oak View community take on Rainbow Environmental Services due to Rainbow's air quality violations. They won that fight and have helped the children now breathe cleaner air when out playing on the school playground. Oscar has also helped low income families by assisting them with housing and education thanks to his knowledge from being an Asset manager with the Orange County Community Housing Corporation/SteppingUp. During the pandemic, he has organized weekly food and clothing drives to help families that might have otherwise not made it. Oscar Rodriguez truly cares about the city of Huntington Beach and all those who call it home. He has proven time and time again that he's here to help. I think he can bring much wisdom and helpful ideas to the city council and the issues it's currently facing. Thank you for your time and consideration. I met her recently and it became immediately apparent to me how passionate she is about the city of Huntington Beach, which she has chosen to call her home. I understand that traditionally, Huntington Beach has been a fairly conservative community. Dom certainly has traditional "conservative" bona fides as a local business owner. Her perspective as a resident and business owner in the city should be a welcome addition to the HB City Council and the decisions that it faces. She also brings a unique perspective as a black woman—a voice that I do not believe has been present on the HB City Council previously, and perhaps not on any city council in Orange County. I urge you not only to make a positive decision for the council, but also an historic one. I was impressed by Dom, her passion, her energy, and her commitment to public service. I think she would be a phenomenal addition to the HB City Council and hope you will support her appointment. Since his starting this grassroots program during the pandemic. Oscar and his team have helped many Huntington Beach citizens with weekly food, diapers, household items and other support during it time of great need. He ran for a city council seat in the most recent election and we understand that he came in very close to being elected to one of the open seats. It would be the proper decision to allow him to take a seat now. Thank you for your consideration and your vote to appoint Oscar Rodriguez to the open seat on the city council. Over the years we have known hundreds of our tenants and our surrounding neighbors. Some of these individuals have become friends and we have watched their families grow up. This past year we have enjoyed getting to know Ben Goldberg. Ben has quite a bit of City Government experience, serving many years as a Commissioner in the Long Beach area. A frequent visitor to Huntington Beach over the years, Ben now calls Surf City his home. Ben has a passion for everything Huntington Beach stands for: Healthy beach lifestyle and support for our protective services, Police, Fire, and Lifeguard. As a successful businessman, Ben fully supports HB businesses, both large and small. Our children and our grandchildren are our treasures, and Ben is committed to their receiving a great education, and making sure that the numerous activities are available to all the children. We firmly believe that Ben Golgberg is a fine choice for filling the vacant position on the HB City Council. Scott& Joanie Seaton 8565 Iarkhall Cir. I lere is my statement. Good afternoon; My name is Michelle Fuga, and I am interested in serving on the Huntington Beach City Council. About me: 1 was born in Garden Grove, and have lived in Huntington Beach for most of my life. My father and I both attended Huntington Beach High School. I am a Business person, a mother, and a grandmother. I am also a recovered addict, and have overcome homelessness -all right here in Huntington Beach. As "business","family", "addiction & recovery",and"homelessness" all have relevance in our community, I think I have a unique perspective that represent a positive contribution to the discussion and planning on each of these topics. Qualifications: I have an MBA in Organizational Leadership from Mount St. Mary's University in LA. 1 have strong Leadership& Communication skills. I have served on the Board of Directors at the Roque Center in Westminster, and I am am a long time volunteer with Working Wardrobes in Costa Mesa,CA in the capacity of Transformational Change Coach. I would facilitate a 8 week workshop assisting people with the transition from joblessness to self- sufficiency. Motivation to Apply: As a Huntington Beach resident, I'd like to be more involved in community solution(s). However, the confusion and negativity on Social Media have made getting involved feel very intimidating. I don't have an agenda for any one particular item, but rather have an interest in gaining knowledge on the issues, and in turn sharing that knowledge in a very basic and simplified manner. 1'o that end I would like to serve on the City Council with an aim for disseminating intonnation so that people like myself can understand and may be motivated to become involved in a positive way.
