I think this is a catastrophic mistake. Not only is main street outside dining an amazing experience that brings people to the community who want to use the restaurants as well as buy in the shops, but it also has revitalize that community. Many communities have converted streets to not having any traffic whatsoever. Take for example, 3rd St., Promenade in Santa Monica. That used to be a dying Street with traffic until the city converted it to a completely consumer, friendly pedestrian, friendly, walking area and now it's a vibrant area with high-end shops. In addition, my family bought into this area with one considerat In addition, my family bought in this area recently. One consideration was the charm of the main street area. We can have outdoor dining. It reminded my wife and I of Europe, and it felt like we were on vacation in Italy. Had I known that this decision was going on earlier, I would have immediately have attended the city Council meeting for that date. I simply learned it because I was out of town for a while during the holiday break. And then read this in the newspaper. I am in addition, I think it's going to have a dramatic affect on those businesses that are in that neighborhood. Especially the restaurants. At the present, the restaurants are now starting to make back some of the money that they lost during the Covid crisis. Losing that extra square footage will be in that naturally there will be less revenue because there's only so much space interior. As a result, it's possible that some of these businesses that are starting to thrive again, will potentially shutter their doors, because they just cannot make the money. Finally, it is surprising to me in an era where cities are really trying to focus on pedestrian options and closing down and limiting traffic in high profile areas that this city is deciding to bring back traffic into this area. Paragraph, I strongly urge you to reconsider this decision. I am writing to urge you to seriously reconsider this decision. I moved to Huntington Beach during 2021. One of the primary reasons we chose this city is due to Main Street and its dining on the streets. It reminded me of Europe and was charming. We have had many visitors and each has loved that aspect the city. I read the objections and they don't seem valid. One of the biggest concerns were intoxicated party goers affecting other businesses. If this is really a problem, it will still continue because the restaurants are there. If that is the concern, then you would have to eliminate the bars on that street. I have not seen that concern come to fruition. Second, the other businesses often profit from the pedestrian traffic. Third, having cars parked in those areas and providing cars only gives an opportunity for cruising. The street portions that do have traffic are not as nice as the section that does not. Further, what is the environmental effect of having that many cars on the street? Not only will it affect pollution for the street, noise for the street, but it is also increasing the risk of cars colliding with pedestrians. To be very honest, had I known that HB was going to eliminate such a charming aspect of the city, I would not have bought my home in this neighborhood and would have considered another beach city. Please keep the street without car traffic. Michele Mann Owner on 7th street SUPPLEMENTAL COMMUNICATION Meeting Date: 2-ja t I aoa 3 1 Agenda Item No.; (o (d.9 / zq)
