Subject: 12/5/23 HB City Council Agenda Item 7- Motion to Elect a New Mayor
Mayor Strickland, City Council Members,
I recently saw a political flier on social media that showed the choice by
the majority council members for mayor and mayor pro tem as Gracey
Van Der Mark and Pat Burns, respectively. This pre-ordained selection,
continues the break from historical council norms by this council
majority and its disdain and lack of respect of the public and the Brown
Act.
Despite this pre-ordained outcome, I cannot be silent on this error of
judgment. I believe that Council Member Van Der Mark is not fit to serve
as Mayor of Huntington Beach because of her affiliation with militia
organizations like the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and the III% ers.
Her record of dismantling our local government, disbanding citizen
boards like the Human Relations Committee, the takeover by the city to
administer elections, watering down the Statement of Human Dignity to
make it meaningless, and imposing a board to censor library books
shows her anti-American, anti-government beliefs. These actions this
year support the accusations of her affinity with militia organizations like
the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and III%ers.
I am not aware of any statement that she has issued to disavow her
affiliation with any of these groups, whose members have been
convicted or awaiting trial of the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol building
on January 6, 2021 . Nor am I aware of any of her colleagues making
similar statements to disavow these militia organizations. I can only
suPPLsnnENTAL
surmise that she supports these militia organizations. COMMUNICATION

Agenda Item No.;
During the past year I have heard very serious accusations, supported
by photos and videos, against Council Member Van Der Mark about her
affiliations with these militia organizations several years ago. I have
heard Ms. Van Der Mark say that she attended these rallies for research
purposes, but has not produced any report of her research or statement
to disavow her affiliation with these organizations. I did hear assertion
that Holocaust of six million Jews by the Nazi regime did occur.
Ms. Van Der Mark please make a public statement and issue a written
statement about your affiliation with these organizations and your
current affiliation with them. In addition to Ms. Van Der Mark, Council
Members Burns, Strickland and McKeon need to make similar
statements of your disavowal of these organizations and that they have
no place in our city government.
It is not too late for the city council to correct this grievous issue.

Importance: High
We all know that, barring a miracle where the Fascist Fours majority on the City Council comes down
with a sudden attack of ethical behavior, Councilwoman Dis-Gracey Van Der Mark will be installed as
new "mayor" this coming Tuesday.
Huntington Beach then will have the dubious distinction of being the first city in California to sport
an overtly racist mayor with a long and documented history of close relationships with the Proud
Boys and other anti-democratic white supremacist cults, not to mention a reputation of having an
unhealthy fixation on other people's sexuality.
I'm quite sure this will work wonders attracting tourism or business activities.
Ms. Van Der Bark is neither qualified nor legitimately positioned to be nominated to this role. There
are 2 members of the City Council with more seniority in the role who should be considered for
nomination for 2024 Mayorship. But this would be forgetting that the current City Council majority
has shown time and again they have no respect for time-honored rules and norms, nor ethics, nor
citizens' input.
When you vote for the new HB Mayor on Tuesday, remember that your decision is public and will
remained so forever, the Internet never forgets.
Do the right things and follow the rules for a change.

We request that our views be included in tonight's minutes since we can't attend in person. We
object to Gracey Van Der Mark being considered as Mayor, as usual the majority is going by its own
personal rules. The next Mayor according to the Resolution should be according to seniority and
experience. It is very clear what the majority on the City Council is trying to do. You are doing
whatever benefits you personally and politically and trying to bring in people just like you. We want
our city back and have our voices heard instead of living in a dictatorial city. We will not stand for
voter restrictions, discriminatory flag policy, untrained adults deciding what books will be allowed in
our Public Libraries. These actions are what lead up to a society that has very little rights and
becomes a dictatorship. We want our Democracy and live by the Constitution, not a few
opportunists that are only thinking of their own selfish gains and not of the citizens of this city.
