A statement of the reasons of the proposed action as contemplated in the petition is as follows: The Huntington Beach Public Library has been providing library and cultural services to the City of Huntington Beach since 1909. Now,some politicians seek to privatize/outsource the management of the library including our librarians. Some of our beloved librarians have already quit due to this threat of lower pay and loss of benefits. Outsourcing threatens the institution of the Huntington Beach Public Library system to its core. Privatization and/or outsourcing is likely to lead to a reduction in services, cutting of staff and programs, and would cause private organizations that support the library(like Friends of the Huntington Beach Public Library)to reduce or eliminate their programs that support the library. Libraries are public services for the public good and should not be turned over to private corporations seeking to turn a profit. Sign: /s/Paula A. Schaefer Name: Paula A. A statement of the reasons of the proposed action as contemplated in the petition is as follows: The Huntington Beach Public Library has been providing library and cultural services to the City of Huntington Beach since 1909. Now, some politicians seek to privatize/outsource the management of the library including our librarians. Some of our beloved librarians have already quit due to this threat of lower pay and loss of benefits. Outsourcing threatens the institution of the Huntington Beach Public Library system to its core. Privatization and/or outsourcing is likely to lead to a reduction in services, cutting of staff and programs, and would cause private organizations that support the library(like the Friends of the Huntington Beach Public Library) to reduce or eliminate their programs that support the library. Libraries are public services for the public good and should not be turned over to private corporations seeking to turn a profit.
