CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH
City Council Meeting - Council Member Items Report
To: City Council
From: Dan Kalmick, City Councilmember
Date: June 4, 2024
Subject: WATER IS WET; THE SKY IS BLUE
ISSUE STATEMENT
A shared set of facts is paramount for any discussion of the issues facing Huntington Beach.
Being that this Council struggles to find common ground on even the most basic of issues, I
believe that it has come time for this Council to reaffirm that water is indeed wet and that the sky
is blue.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Reaffirm by minute action that water is wet and the sky is blue.
ENVIRONMENTAL STATUS
This action is not subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to
Sections 15060(c)(2) (the activity will not result in a direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect
physical change in the environment) and 15060(c)(3) (the activity is not a project as defined in
Section 15378) of the CEQA Guidelines, California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Chapters,
because it has no potential for resulting in physical change to the environment, directly or
indirectly.

Dear Ms Estanislau,
Please add this to the public comments for the next cc meeting.
Today I read social media reactions to yesterday's verdict regarding our former president.
"America's fully destroyed by democrats. Lock and load.""Time to start capping some
leftys."
As councilman Burns submitted his proposal regarding the first and second amendments,
councilman Kalmick submitted his proposal about water being wet and the sky being blue.
Well the sky is currently not blue, it is quite grey. Both proposals fuel intense emotions.
Gentlemen, please withdraw your proposals.
Thank you.

Subject: Public Comment Item 20,Tuesday,June 4,2024 Agenda I No.;.

Gutend Abend Stadtrat,
I'm writing in support of Item 20. WATER IS
WET; THE SKY IS BLUE. This important
affirmation is relative to the entire constitution
& the most fundamental environmental
systems. The city council has also not listed a
dedicated item number on the city council
meeting agenda, strictly for residents who wish
to attach non-agenized only, public comments,
sent in by email. In the age of online
supplemental communication, this is even
more burdensome & discriminatory during
emergencies. Please consider doing so.
Non-agenized - Wanted to emphasize that the
denial of the desalination plant in the city is a
major victory. Desalination plants permanently
destroy the ocean's magnesium, this is a
fundamental threat to the human body & the
existence of a fishing industry. Also, carbon
dioxide annihilation plants permanently
destroy an atmospheric layer. The promotion
of these plants is disinformation to a
population, its investors & is a money pot of
corruption. It's important that they be shut
down & outlawed. This is what is really at the
heart of the discussion & national security.
These are the maps of desalination plants &
some other types that are destroying
the ocean. The element levels are permanently
lowered & altered. Ocean water, the ozone
qualities, ect. are not intended to be strip
mines, & although that is difficult to accept,
WATER IS WET; THE SKY IS BLUE
resonates as the most important guideline in
moving forward. Without this, this
revocation of promises stands in the way of the
city attorney's honorable intentions. Danke -
Ben

Subject: Council Member Items 20 and 21
Date: Sunday,June 2,2024 1:46:54 PM
Dear City Council,
I am writing with respect to these items for the Council Agenda on June 4, 2024. I continue
to be disappointed that this council spends more time on things that are not related to the
governance of and support for the CIty of Huntington Beach. These 2 items reflect that no
return to polite political discourse will happen anytime soon.
As to Mr. Kalmick's item, it reflects deep frustration and well understood why this is.
However, I do think it does not move the city forward in any regard and do not support the
item.
Mr. Burns' item is simply not appropriate for a HB City Council member to put his
PERSONAL national view of the world into a City Council meeting. The time he spent
drafting this item would have been better spent educating himself on any number of items that
ALL residents agree are important: Clean water, well paved streets, homelessness support,
affordable housing etc....so much real work to be done and yet.... In watching most City
Council meetings, I have been underwhelmed with the lack of critical thinking by this council
member. Please stop the grandstanding and blowing the dog whistle. The residents are very
clear on your views on all manner of things, just not clear that your priority is to serve the
city.
Thank you.

Hello Honorable Mayor& Council Members,
RE: Council Meeting Date 6/4/2024 Agenda Item #20 (24-433) Item Submitted by Council
Member Kalmick- Water is Wet, Sky is Blue
This agenda item is divisive in itself. I cannot believe our city stafflcouncil members are
wasting time on such an item.
The division that Kalmick, Moser& Bolton sow on social media is more often than not
generally based on a misrepresentation of the facts or assumptions based on rumors. This
causes great division and fights within the community. Just visit Nextdoor to see what Dan
Kalmicks+2's political rhetoric has caused. Kalmick, I saw you smirk when your followers
were reprimanded for outbursts at a city meeting. Unfortunately they do not know that you are
just using them for your own selfish purposes and really do not care about them. This agenda
is a waste of time, how did it even get put on the agenda?
Thank you for your time, Renette Mazza I HB Resident

This is a complete waste of time. Everyone has busy schedules and our City council has much
bigger issues to address. This little playground banter of blue skies and wet water is ridiculous..
Are we expecting to much from you Dan?
Please refrain from this infantile behavior moving forward.

Date: Tuesday,June 4,2024 7:54:37 AM
This is a plea that our City Council restrict its actions to those needed by our city. These
include but are not limited to infrastructure that badly needs repair, homelessness, and e-bike
regulation. Why can't the fountain in the library be fixed for the 50th anniversary
celebration?
Instead, our City Council is doing what the OC Register called "political theater." I have been
a homeowner and resident of this city for 39 years. Until last year, I never concerned myself
with city politics. This CC has made me an activist.
Firstly, I understand Mr. Kalmick's intent with this resolution. I understand his frustration.
And am reminded of the quote "You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own
facts." But this resolution wastes valuable time.
Secondly, I very much object to 24-427. It is extremely partisan and will further divide the
city. I respect Mayor Pro Tem Burns, but I think this is both unnecessary and divisive.
Please - get back to your real job of running this city and leave the grandstanding to national
politicians and actors.

I encourage you to vote Yes on 24-433 and provide proof to the residents of the City that
you can agree on at least two basic facts.
Some Council members may think that this Agenda Item is a waste of time; however, it is
no more a waste of time than the item that follows on the agenda.

Council Member McKeon,
It may appear that my opinions are contradictory but my point is that CM Kalmick's item is an appeal to
find common ground and agree on common facts.
This is in stark contrast to MPT Burn's use of the agenda. MPT Burns' item airs his personal opinions (not
facts) in an attempt to persuade City residents that somehow the City has been breaching residents 2nd
Amendment rights.
As I stated in my email re MPT Burns, stop campaigning and start governing, and stick to City issues,
please.

Subject: Leave Our Public Libraries Alone!
Just say no to privatizing the public libraries. There is no need for this and no one asked for it to
happen. It has not worked out in other cities at all and it won't work here. As it is a company that a
former mayor/council member of our's is part of, comes of beyond shady if this goes through.
On top of that there is no reason for council member Pat Burns item. It sounds like a bunch of ranting
that should have been posted on your private social media page (not a council member one either) or
in conversations with friends but its not city business or anything to do with the residents as a whole.
Stop with these pointless and waste of time items that do nothing for our city.
Council member Dan Kalmick, well played sir! Sadly it will go over many heads on why you did that.

Subject: Items 20 and 21
I would like to address Mr. Kalmick's Item 20 and Mr. Burns' Item 21 on tonight's agenda.
Mr. Kalmick mocks Mr. Burns' concern that our federal constitution and especially the first and second amendments are
under attack and therefore in need of defense. He wants us to think that everyone supports and defends the federal
constitution and our rights. This is manifestly untrue. The attacks are open, blatant, and continuous and primarily from
the eft and the Democratic Party.
Democrats are actively seeking to abolish the electoral college. Rather than bothering to amend the Constitution, they
are even now entering into a conspiracy against it with their National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Democrat Representative John Dingell has argued for doing away with the Senate. Such a pure one person one vote
democracy,a dictatorship of the majority, is a system guaranteed to produce a dictator. Erwin Chemerinsky has even
argued that the Supreme Court should impose all this by judicial fiat without bothering to amend the written
constitution.
In 2014 under SJR 19,.the Democratic Party attempted to amend the first amendment to suppress political speech.
As revealed in the"Twitter files,"Democratic administrations have pressured social media platforms to act as de facto
government censors and propaganda organs.
In 2016, Democrats staged a sit-in in Congress to deny anyone on the no fly list the right to buy a guy, thus attacking
both the second amendment and the fifth amendment's guarantee of due process.
In 2023 under SJR 7,California Democrats proposed modifying the second amendment to severely limit this important
constitutional right.
Left-leaning Supreme Court members have invented constitutional rights to child killing and the desecration of God's
holy institution of marriage, and treated these invented rights as superseding the written rights to freedom of speech
and religion. Citizens are routinely jailed, fined and punished for even passively opposing child killing and the
desecration of marriage.
The current administration has engineered a Venezuela-style conviction and possible jailing of its principal opponent in
the upcoming presidential election. They have done so in violation of the defendant's sixth amendment right to know
the charges against him.
And we could go on. The attacks against our constitution are blatant, numerous, continuous, and practically define the
modern Democratic Party.
Unable to deny or defend these specific attacks against both the constitution's system of checks and balances and its
enumerated rights, Mr. Kalmick and his allies at the OC Register resort to mockery and ridicule, with the Register today
calling defense of the constitution a "circus"that distract from the pot hole filling business of the City.
Put me on record as supporting Councilmember Burns efforts to defend our constitution and the Bill of Rights.
