Parrish, Detective R. Eidlhuber and I spoke with Eric Robert Dieterman at Lifeguard Headquarters located at 103 Pacific Coast Highway in the City of Huntington Beach. The interview was conducted reference an officer involved shooting involving officers from the Huntington Beach Police Department. The interview was audio recorded with my department issued audio recorder. The following is a synopsis of the conversation. It is not verbatim, nor necessarily in order of conversation, and is organized for the purpose of clarity. This report is not meant to take the place of the actual recording. It is just a synopsis. For complete details refer to the recording of the interview. At about 2015 hours, we spoke with Dieterman in a conference room within Lifeguard Headquarters. Dieterman stated his shift was 0800 to 1800 hours. Dieterman stated he was working as the Marine Safety Battalion Chief for the Huntington Beach Fire Department. Dieterman stated his duties are to oversee the Marine Safety Division. Dieterman stated at an unknown time he heard his units being dispatched to the scene of a man down. Dieterman said he responded lights and sirens from the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Street. Dieterman stated when he arrived on scene he saw his staff performing basic lifesaving efforts on a subject in the sand. Dieterman told me he did not provide any medical service to the suspect and was purely supervising.   I asked Dieterman if he saw any weapons on the scene and he stated he saw a black semi-automatic handgun about two feet away from the suspect. I asked what medical services his staff provided to the suspect. Dieterman stated his staff performed CPR and did standard and care medical assistance. Dieterman stated the ambulance arrived the same time he did and were able to perform the advanced life support needed. Dieterman stated the suspect was transported to the hospital by Huntington Beach Fire. I asked Dieterman if he had any questions or any information related to the investigation and he stated he did not. I ended the interview.
