I earn why this is important Public Comment Item 7. 25-257 I'm writing to publicly report an illegal squirrel feeding dish & mini-table at 7871 Warner Ave. (Woody's Diner) for years; & to request that this & all commercial food establishments be prohibited from feeding squirrels effective immediately. I want commercial food to serve clean food, & to not be feeding squirrels as well; that being said I have good things to say about this resident favorite. I also want to thank 7777 Edinger Ave. for the quality C that folks have experienced; such as restaurants, coffee, books, movies & coats. What a fun place. Squirrel feeding is completely illegal & is a big problem in the city, it has resulted in the squirrels becoming predatorial to human activity, health risk & significant financial loss to me & all affected facilities. Similar to the Mynocks of Ord Mynock, imagine if the squirrels. were to. chew on the cables & lumber of the utility systems? This is known to be a problem. AI In Huntington Beach, CA, and generally in California, feeding wildlife, including squirrels, is illegal under California Code of Regulations, title 14, section 251 . 1, which defines harassment as disrupting an animal's normal behavior patterns, and feeding falls under that. Feeding wildlife is illegal in California. Section 251 . 1 of the 'California Fish and Game Code states that feeding a wild animal can be considered animal harassment. People can be fined up to $ 1 ,000 for feeding a squirrel in California. I am also writing to publicly request that the county health inspector be called out to inspect the 6561 Edinger Ave. (Mcdonald's) building & from now on be equipped to test for E. coli bacteria at all commercial food places in the same timeliness. I question if there was an underreported, documented E. coli outbreak at this store location during the winter months & that the food supply, food health, building cleanliness & conduct is not being enforced here according to procedure by.the total management, & would like to know if there were similar occurrences at this location? This was reported to the headquarters but I doubt anything was done. This caused me significant health & financial loss. I refuse to return to this store location until the food health is investigated & changed, & confidence of food health is restored in the city; there are many occurrences due to various reasons. These are a few issues folks might not realize how important they are. Both need to stop now. I would also like to suggest an insect, nocturnal & amphibian house; & observatory for the city. These are truly amazing ideas for the city so I'm simply putting forth these ideas. - Ben (Jean-Luc) Pickens, NWHB Community Org: veridianscape.bandcamp.com °cTinic 2000 Main Street, +f po;•TOv Huntington Beach,CA _' 92648 City of Huntington Beach vt ZZuNn File#: 25-065 MEETING DATE: 2/4/2025 Huntington Beach Police Chaplain James Pike City of Huntington Beach Page 1 of 1 Printed on 1/29/2025 powered by LegistarTM 17 SUPPLEMENTAL COMMUNICATION From: II Meeting Date: 2/4/2025 To: 5upolementalcomm(aa surfcity-hb.orQ Subject: Public Comment,Item 9,Tuesday,February 4,2025. I'm writing to request that the displacement of violent squirrels into Northwest Huntington Beach stop, and that they be much more effectively trapped by animal control. These squirrels are repetitious-ly destroying every inch of the backyards and potted plants here, and I believe there will be biting and rabies soon. This is a very serious problem among residents and associations that is not solved. Please, this needs to stop. This is a very serious problem here that is preventing residents from living their lives, a normal request that the city council should be able to solve. I do believe that the squirrels were displaced by development, regardless, a solution needs to be found. This is the city council's responsibility, not others. - Ben, NWHB
