HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council - 2025-78 RESOLUTION NO. 2025-78 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH DECLARING EACH SEPTEMBER 18th AS "KOLBY AIPA DAY" IN THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH WHEREAS, Kolby Aipa was a graduate of Huntington Beach High School and a beloved member of the Huntington Beach community; and Kolby was a renowned surfer, a member of the Huntington Beach Board Riders Club, and an inductee into the Surfers' Hall of Fame; and Kolby came from a respected family of surfers, as the son of Duke Aipa and grandson of legendary Hawaiian board shaper Ben Aipa; and Kolby was known for his kindness to all, and after his tragic and untimely passing on August 5, 2025,the community honored his life with a paddle out on the north side of the Pier; and To continue the legacy of Aloha and honor his legacy and memorialize his life,the City Council desires to establish September 18th as"Kolby Aipa Day"in the City of Huntington Beach, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby resolve as follows: Section 1. September 18th of each year is hereby declared to be"Kolby Aipa Day"in the City of Huntington Beach. Section 2. The City Council encourages its residents, schools, and community organizations to observe this day with appropriate educational programs and civic activities that celebrate the kindness, community involvement,and spirit of Aloha exemplified by Kolby Aipa.
