Subject: Support for Councilman Chad Williams as Mayor Pro Tern(Agenda Item 25-898)
Date: Saturday,November 29,2025 10:48:45 PM
Dear Mayor Burns and Council Members,
I write in strong support of selecting Councilman Chad Williams as Mayor Pro Tem under
Agenda Item 25-898 at the December 2, 2025 council meeting, where the new Mayor will call
for a motion to elect the new Mayor Pro Tern and administer the Oath of Office.
In November 2024, Councilman Williams received 52,335 votes, the highest number ever
received by any candidate in Huntington Beach City Council history (Orange County
Registrar of Voters certified results). This historic mandate clearly reflects the will of our
residents.
Huntington Beach has a longstanding tradition of appointing the top vote-getter as the next
Mayor Pro Tern. Honoring this precedent is the fairest way to acknowledge the voters' choice
and demonstrate that our council respects the democratic process.
Councilman Williams has consistently shown dedication to our city's quality of life, public
safety, and fiscal responsibility. Appointing him Mayor Pro Tem would affirm that the council
places the clear voice of the electorate above any other consideration.
I respectfully urge you to follow tradition and the voters' overwhelming decision by
appointing Councilman Chad Williams as Mayor Pro Tern on Tuesday.
Thank you for your service to Huntington Beach. I look forward to seeing this tradition
upheld.
Sincerely,
Stacey Shell
