February 22 now stands as a historic day in United States hockey history, marking both the legacy of
the 1980 Miracle on Ice and the 2026 Olympic gold medal victory. The 2026 Winter Olympic hockey
tournaments featured extraordinary performances by both United States teams, including dramatic
overtime "golden goal" victories over Canada-by the women's team on February 19, 2026, and the
men's team on February 22, 2026.
Huntington Beach celebrates these achievements and recognizes the importance of youth and
amateur hockey programs in the community and beyond. These programs foster leadership,
discipline, sportsmanship, and healthy activity. Recognizing a day of celebration honors the legacy of
hockey's achievements and inspires future generations.

The HB City Council made a point of limiting the types of flags displayed on city buildings
and revising the calendar to celebrate certain events and groups.
Designating February 22nd as USA Hockey day should be at the direction of the President, not
our city council.
Sincerely,
Pat Quintana

You don't often get email from staceygrosvenor@aol.com.I earn why this is important
Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
I am writing regarding the proposal to designate February 22nd as "USA Hockey Day"
in honor of the U.S. men's Olympic gold medal victory at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
While this was a tremendous and historic achievement, I respectfully ask the Council
to consider that the U.S. women's hockey team also won Olympic gold just three days
earlier, on February 19, 2026. Both teams defeated Canada in dramatic overtime
victories, and together they made history as the first U.S. men's and women's teams
ever to win Olympic gold at the same Winter Games.
By selecting only February 22nd as the official date of recognition, the City may
unintentionally overlook the equally extraordinary accomplishment of the women's
team. Their victory required the same dedication, excellence, and perseverance, and
it inspired countless young athletes in our community.
If the purpose of this designation is to celebrate American excellence and pride in
Olympic hockey, I respectfully suggest that the Council consider one of the following:
• Designating "USA Hockey Day" in recognition of both the February 19th and
February 22nd gold medal victories; or
• Selecting a date that represents the historic dual achievement of both teams; or
• Including explicit language in the proclamation honoring both the men's and
women's Olympic champions.
Recognizing both teams equally would reflect our City's commitment to fairness and
ensure that we fully celebrate one of the greatest moments in American Olympic
hockey history.
Thank you for your time and for considering this perspective.
Respectfully,
Stacey Grosvenor

To the city council,
I am completely stunned that you would think it appropriate to decide to celebrate a USA Hockey day on our City
Calendar! Clearly you've failed to watch the WOMEN'S HOCKEY TEAM win the gold medal twice before this
win by the men. To say that this is the height of misogyny is clearly an understatement, but,of course, you
constantly mirror the MAGA take on everything going on in this country.
How about, for a change, you spend your time worrying about issues in OUR city instead of embarrassing
yourselves, and US,by this measure. I'm quite certain the citizen of Huntington Beach would appreciate it!
