A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTINGTON BEACH DECLARING EACH FEBRUARY 22ND AS "USA HOCKEY DAY"
IN THE CITY OF HUNTINGTON BEACH
WHEREAS, ice hockey has long been a sport that unites communities across the United
States, inspiring teamwork, perseverance, and national pride among players and fans of all ages;
and
The United States has achieved historic success in international ice hockey competition,
demonstrating excellence and resilience on the world stage; and
The United States Women's National Ice Hockey Team has won three Olympic gold
medals since women's hockey debuted at the Winter Olympic Games in 1998, capturing a gold
in Nagano (1998) PyeongChang (2018), and Milano Cortina(2026); and
The United States Men's National Ice Hockey Team has won three Olympic gold medals,
including its historic victory in 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games; and
The February 22, 2026 Olympic gold medal victory by the United States Men's Team
ended a 46-year gold medal drought since the legendary February 22, 1980 "Miracle on Ice,"
when the United States defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union and went on to win Olympic
gold; and
The date of February 22 now stands as a historic day in United States hockey history,
marking both the 1980 Miracle on Ice legacy and the 2026 Olympic gold medal victory; and
The 2026 Winter Olympic hockey tournaments featured extraordinary performances by
both United States teams, including dramatic overtime "golden goal" victories over Canada—by
the women's team on February 19, 2026, and the men's team on February 22, 2026; and
These achievements represent the dedication of athletes, coaches, families, youth leagues,
and community programs that support the growth of hockey across the United States; and
Youth and amateur hockey programs throughout the nation foster leadership, discipline,
sportsmanship, and healthy activity for young people; and
Communities across the country celebrate the contributions of local hockey players,
coaches, volunteers, and fans who strengthen the sport at every level; and
Recognizing a national day of celebration will honor the legacy of American hockey
achievements and inspire future generations of player; and

To recognize a national day of celebration will honor the legacy of American hockey
achievements and inspire future generations of players., the City Council desires to establish
February 22nd as "USA Hockey Day" in the City of Huntington Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach does hereby
resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. February 22nd of each year is hereby declared to be "USA Hockey Day"in
the City of Huntington Beach.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Huntington Beach at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 17th day of March , 2026.

I, LISA LANE BARNES, the duly elected, qualified City Clerk of the
City of Huntington Beach, and ex-officio Clerk of the City Council of said City, do
hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council of the City of
Huntington Beach is seven; that the foregoing resolution was passed and adopted
by the affirmative vote of at least a majority of all the members of said City Council
at a Regular meeting thereof held on March 17, 2026 by the following vote:
