Subject: CITY-SPONSORED FLAG PROGRAM
ISSUE STATEMENT
A city-sponsored flag program would allow residents and community groups to proudly
participate in the display of the United States flag on select City-owned streetlight poles
on a temporary basis and/or for holidays. Framework for the policy may include:
• City staff to install and maintain City-approved mounting hardware.
• Residents can display a flag on an existing eligible pole in front of their
residence.
• Communities can display flags on existing eligible poles throughout their
community with collective concurrence.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct staff to develop a City-sponsored Flag Program Policy that establishes simple,
uniform guidelines that honor the U.S. Flag Code, promote community pride, and
maintains the safety and integrity of City infrastructure.
